Behind the Scenes of Season of Daffodils

Over the past few weeks, my studio has slowly filled with daffodils. My palette trays and easels are filled with yellows, greens, and muted blues and purples.

This collection began with a simple idea: trying to hold onto the feeling of spring. I painted during nap time, on my birthday, my first Mother's Day, and at night after I put my baby to sleep. These intimate floral still life and landscapes were my companions in the quiet. They allowed me a moment to pause, no matter how busy life got.

I kept returning to the way daffodils seem to glow for only a short stretch of the year. Rather than focusing on detail, I wanted these paintings to feel atmospheric and slightly blurred, like a memory you can almost step back into.

Most of the pieces were built slowly in layers of soft pastel, allowing the surface to stay loose and powdery. I found myself simplifying more than usual, fewer marks, quieter palettes, softer edges.

The collection is beginning to come together.
